Corporate media’s obsession with providing equal coverage for all “points of view” or making sure that they do not criticize one party more than the other, is ridiculous and has nothing to do with fairness. Fairness does not mean giving platforms equally to truths and falsehoods. Social media is already providing ample opportunity for dissemination of lies and non factual statements; significantly more than facts and reliable information; through their algorithms that promote outrageous posts regardless of whether they are factual or not. News networks do not have to do the same.
The practice reminds me of something I read in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election. The author, obviously someone who wasn’t very happy with the outcome of the election, argued that the fact that the election deniers lost all of the more than 60 lawsuits they brought to invalidate the results at different locations was evidence that the courts were biased against election deniers. Similarly, senator Josh Howly, in a recent congressional hearing, presented a chart showing a significantly larger number of nationwide injunctions against the current administration (compared to the previous administrations), to argue that the courts were biased against the administration. In the words of the grifter in chief himself, the judges are all lunatic liberals, even if they were nominated by conservative presidents and have demonstrated conservative tendencies in their past rulings. Apparently, to some, that seems like a more plausible explanation than the cases being simply meritless.
For a party that cannot stop talking about the evils of socialism and merits of allowing for the strong to thrive and the weak to be sidelined, demanding that courts give them the same number of wins as their opponents sounds awfully like socialism.
Maybe soon textbooks will be required to allocate the same amount of space to describing a flat earth as they do to the sphere that it closely resembles. After all, not doing so is clear evidence that they are biased against flat earthers.
