What a shameful stunt! Now that the pressure has built up and Trump knows he will be losing the House vote on Tuesday, he is suddenly all for releasing the files. Because, you know, he has nothing to hide. Only, so far he has been calling it a hoax (although he and most of his admin ran on it being a coverup), was pressuring the few Republicans who signed the discharge petition to take back their signatures, and even had a fallout with one of his staunchest supporters, Greene. Besides, it’s his own DoJ and FBI who are in possession of the files. So if he really wanted those files to be released, he could have just asked/ordered Bondi to release them, the same way he orders her to investigate anyone whom he doesn’t like. There was no need for a Congress vote for that. In fact, the only reason MAGA Mike Johnson is now forced to take a vote is because Trump and his DoJ had announced that the investigation was over and there was nothing to see there, and that they wouldn’t be releasing any documents.

So, why the sudden change of heart? Because, at his request, Bondi has now opened an investigation on Clinton and a few other Democrats. For the record, I have no allegiance to Clinton or any Democrat. Whoever has committed those heinous crimes should be held accountable, Democrat, Republican, or anything in between. But Trump knows that this investigation will provide a convenient excuse for Bondi to hold back any document they want, claiming ongoing investigation. So having created the assurance that anything implicating him can be either held back or redacted, he is now encouraging the Republican representatives to vote for the release of the files. This is what happens when a president assumes that the American people including his own voters are a bunch of stupid people who are not capable of understanding what’s going on.
